Yesterday on my way to my girlfriends I was stopped at a light and saw a sheriff's Deputy behind me. It was 3 lanes of traffic. Pulled away from the light and got up to the 40 mph speed limit. I guy passed me in the middle lane exceeding the speed limit, and thought to myself the Deputy must not be enforcing the traffic laws. This area has its own police department.

I move in to the middle lane several car lengths behind the silver car. The Deputy follows behind me. Then lights me up and pulls me over.

As a State Trooper I was required to great people, tell them my name, and why I stopped them. I asked the Deputy why he stopped me. He told me to turn down a side street and he'd tell me there.

I moved to the new location and got out of my truck because my lab was barking in my ear. The Deputy freaks out and tells me nobody told me to get out of the car.

Ends up telling me I failed to use my turn signal. I tell the Deputy I'm a retired Trooper and I've never stopped someone for a turn signal.

Did I break the law. Yes. But I think it's petty bullshit getting stopped for it at 12:30 in the afternoon.

Deputy followed it up with 'you should no better' because I'm a retired Trooper, and they do things differently in Texas.

At least I didn't get a ticket. I don't like cops that nitpick, stop people for petty shit, and treat people like criminals. I never did that.

Welcome to America.

It always starts with not signaling your lane changes... it's anybody's guess what type of criminal activity is next.

I got stopped for no seat belt several years ago by a local LEO who looked about 18. I told him that a 63 VW only had lap belts and I was wearing mine. He tried to say I was still in violation so I informed him that he would be made a fool of in court if that's what he wanted. He proceeded to tell me he would just issue a warning and I informed him again he needs to read up on the law. I was polite and he finally gave up his battle to win the argument.

I wish they’d stop people in my area who dont signal, drives me nuts. I was stopped for a seatbelt but was told my exhaust was too loud, I know thats bullshit because when I rolled by him (he had another car stopped at the time) I had let off the gas & pushed the clutch in. “revenue generators “ thats all they are ( no disrespect Jim ).

Planes, trains, automobiles: "Do you know how fast you were going?" "No officer actually I don't, because the speedometer melted in the fire."

Better than being wrongly arrested for "trafficking in dangerous knives" like I was 🤷‍♀️

Speaking of which... is there a website where I can see my mugshot for free? Lol. Iirc I made some stupid smart-ass face for it 😅 might be remembering wrong though.. its been over a decade.

I bet the deputy thought you were a shady individual and up to no good for not using the signal.

Every force has it’s “crusader(s)”. Normally the new guy but not always. Our last one retired and don’t know if the department hired gis replacement yet.

In town here im friends with all the cops but 1. I either know them from them from formerly being a volunteer ff, going to school, with them, or being family friends. Small town stuff. The last ticket i got was a seat belt ticket from that 1 Ahole 6 years ago. I do my best to push his buttons so when he asked me if i knew why i was being pulled over, i asked if it was because i was smuggling tube steaks. I even get to blow him shit off the clock too since he works part time at his father in laws junkyard that i frequent. Its great, ive had Willy (his FIL) rolling, he absolutely hates me and has since about 6th grade lol.

Ive actually never been pulled over out of my county though and most here are cool.

I once got a $300 speeding ticket in Trinity County for going 57 in a 55 zone which was interesting because I was stuck between 2 cars on a 2 lane road and couldn't go any faster or slower

I got pulled over riding my bicycle by a county sheriff. My "crime" was leaving the bike lane to avoid tree branches and other obstacles that would have caused a crash - all the while looking at my rear-view mirror to make sure I was not going to get hit from behind. Sheriff must have been back aways as if cars were close I'd try to bunny hop over whatever was in my path. He said the road was for cars and the bike lanes were for "you people". I got off with a warning and a pamphlet to read to "educate" me on the law. Damn pamphlet says what I was doing was legal - wish I would have noticed that before he drove off.

Well. There is generally a littany of reasons to pull my vehicles over at any time...

It's always fun to guess where it starts.
