So after quite some time, a new front axle, new lift, and new slave cylinder, I finally started the ol' Ranger tonight...

...and it made a horrible whining/bearing-going-out noise!

That immediately stopped, and the engine runs great, the sound is actually coming from the clutch. It sounds like something is rubbing in there. I can make it change noises by pushing and releasing the clutch, but it's not consistent. The person here helping me out thinks that the throwout bearing seized while it was sitting and now is rubbing on the pressure plate teeth.

Agree? Any other ideas or experiences?

I had a similar sound when my clutch physically broke. Truck would not move because the innards separated from the friction material.. In other words, the input shaft would spin as normal but it was no longer connected to the rest of the clutch material.. the sound would change as the pedal was pressed/depressed.

I haven't tried to move it yet, am a little worried to. It does actually have one constant sound other than the short horrible noise once it starts, and that's a quiet sound of metal rubbing as the shaft spins

Ok anyone wanna take a guess at what super intelligent, totally problem solving solution I found to fix it?

Clutch slave cylinder was on backwards to begin with ?

det107 was closer, I simply put in the 4 bottom tranny bolts that I forgot to put in in the first place :black_eye:
