Got a small winch hooked up today. Only a Warn 4,000lb I had laying around. Built a cradle for it and wired it up. It's only an stop gap measure until I can save up for an 8-9,000lb winch. Tried it out today. Truck was running and in N on a slight incline in the vid. Not perfect but better than a hand cranked come-along (been there bent/broke that). It did OK and should help to yank me out when needed. I tried it while inside the truck with the brake applied and it still pulled me along.

Nice looking winch. Back when I was a kid there was an old guy down the road, WWII vet, who had a real military issue Dodge PW with a flat bed, winch and gin poles. He could set that truck anywhere, put the gin poles up to form a triangle (2 poles, 1 winch make the points of a triangle), hang a pulley at the fulcrum and pull damn near anything up, out, down, sideways or any other way. Don't know what happened to his truck after he passed, but with the right tires I bet that thing woulda crawled a wall like Spiderdude.
