ok i was wondering if i could take a 4 speed out of a 83 and put it in my 84 and my transfer case work? i dont really need the 4 speed in my truck but i still think it would be cool to have in it any thoughts?

if the 83 has the same engine as your 84 and is a 4x4, then it should. tranny's should interchange between the 2.8/2.9/4.0. if the 83 is a 4cyl. then it won't work, iirc.
i have a 5 speed tranny from an 85 b2 in my 83 pickup and it works fine. i prefer the external slave for sure. manual tranny and tc are hard to beat for dependability and ease of maintenance. good luck, and welcome to TRS.
