I tried to learn how to play back in high school, but I could never find a teacher, or anyone to play with, so it never really went anywhere. I've been wanting to pick it back up for a while, and now I have friends that play guitar and drums, so I decided now was the time.

Behold the beauty of the Epiphone Thunderbird IV.

I have a bass too, Samick Stage 5, but its been awhile since I last played on it. I need to buy an amp for it since the last one quit working.

:headbang: Nice! I've always liked the look of those. I used to play back in highschool. I had a Ibanex SDGR5 5 string running through a Morley wah/ distortion pedal conected to a Crate 100 watt head with a matched 15/10/10 cabinet.

Yeah, I think it's the best looking one I've seen, short of some custom pieces. I have found one problem with it, though. The second you take your hand off the neck, it plummets downward. Quickly.

On a side note, what strings do you guys use? Used to use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys, just because they were cheap and didn't break, but yesterday I decided to try out a pair of D'Addario flat wound Chromes. Best string ever. The sound is so much cleaner, and they don't pick up finger noise.

Bass is pretty easy to get started with. Pretty much anyone that walks by can hold their fingers where they are told and pick up a simple bass line. It seems like many guitar players that are forced to play bass try to play lead guitar with it and make life hell for everyone else.

That amp might be a bit small when you play with other people, depending on where you play I guess. We've got an Ampeg BA115HP, which is 220amps and a 15" speaker. It's pretty much turned up all the way with 2 guitars and drums.

I use to play a few years ago because my 2 friends played drums and guitar. Never got real good at it, just hack my way through 20 or 30 songs.

Sweet. I also played in high school, upright and electric. I still have my electric in the closet, but have not picked it up in years.

That's just a practice amp. If I start playing shows, I'll upgrade. I've got my eye on the Behringer Ultrabass BXL3000.

I've used the flat wounds for years. Such a nice, warm sound.:icon_thumby:

Oh Oh Oh!!!! Play some Clapton!!!!

My dad plays bass. I think it's Radio Shack brand. Looks exactly like Xandor's, 'cept red. He bought it cheap and rebuilt it from scratch.

I never had a knack for the musical end of music. I'm much better at the technical end of music. Put me on the sound board and I'll make anything sound good. I should so be a Roadie.

Always liked those basses. I've been playing for about 10 yrs now along with guitar and drums.

Try Rotosound strings. A litte bright sounding but can be used to get a pretty good growl to your bass.

By the way...Judging by your user name, You like Pantera don't you?

Yep. I don't listen to them a lot lately, though. I'm on a European Folk Metal kick right now.

Thats awesome! Who's your favorite right now?

I listen to tons of European progressive metal. If you haven't checked them out, try Opeth. My favorite and definitely one of the best out there.

Sorry for the thread jack:D
