I managed to mangle the connector for the headlights, horn, and a few other things and tried replacing it with a 4-wire trailer connector...in the process I also reconnected the power feed...

Every once in a while (usually at night or in the worst of weather) I turn the key and...nothing...it even happened once while I was driving down the highway...noticed my headlights flickering a bit and when I pushed the switch in and out and wiggled the key I lost all power...but then I wiggled the wires under the hood and it started up...

I was going to replace that connector with a better connector(s) and someone on here mentioned going to an electric supply store...but I can't remember what type of connector they recommended and I can't seem to find the post...

Anyone got anything better I can use...this has to be fixed before the really cold weather gets here...

I think I know what plug you mean; since you've already spliced in a trailer plug, I would consider just patching them in permanently and skip using a plug (do you really need to have one? :D). Solder and shrink wrap the wires. I know it's not the most ideal, but cheap and will last.

Yeah, lol, I think I need one. But I was going to fix the trailer connector if possible. I like to be able to disconnect the wires in case I need to change that section.

I looked at the shrink wrap style and was considering it, but couldn't find anyone to ask how to shrink it...I tossed my hair dryer when I started losing my hair so I don't have that option currently...but might consider buying one if needed...just too many other little projects that have been consuming time and money.

Lighter will work w/ shrink wrap, but need to be careful..

I have the plug you need (both sides), but your in CA ... :dunno:

Does it come with a wire stretcher? Hahaha...I've cut the wires a few times because they were not connecting properly...that's partly why I still have about 18" of wire on the trailer plug...

The trailer connector would be ok, but they use such cheap wire...I've stripped off quite a bit of the sheathing in various places unintentionally and that's why I was considering a different connector...they don't make them like they used to...

want me to estimate what it would cost to ship you the whole harness and what I can cut off from the cab? Or I could probably fit a nice section in a padded envelope. You can have it if you'd want to pay for the shipping.

Sure, find out how much first though. You mean the part that goes forward to the lights, horn, battery and other places?

I'm in the process of moving (moved already) and haven't figured out if I want to use a PO box or not. Shouldn't cost too much, but...let me know and I will PM the address.

Many thanks!

Used 'em when I was designing bucket trucks, was pleasantly surprised to find that a lot of planters use them for the monitors.

If you can get the regular harness I would hands down go that route though.

Just need your postal code. I think USPS would be cheapest, but doesn't matter - USPS, Fedex, and UPS are all in the same industrial complex that it would ship from.

I'll grab pics tonight to verify it is the right one, it's fairly big and will need shipped in a box. It's the harness that runs along the driver's side fender to the front of the truck, to the head lights, start, etc. Pretty sure it's the right one, if not, I am sure I have the right one you need.

Ah, that would have done it...might check those out though because butchered the connector on the firewall side also...well, the wires actually fell out of the sockets and every time I moved it I found another loose one...

Thanks, PC is L1Y 1A1

Changed plug wires and dizzy and finally found an idle adjustment screw (that I used locktite on to keep it from falling out) and still has a bump somewhere...could be the cold/wet weather...but I'm thinking bad connection somewhere...

Sorry, my camera sucks, but here are pics:

Look like the same thing? It's from an '88 2.9L

I still have yet to cut the fire wall side, but the box is 13x10x5 US inches. Weighs around a pound and a half. For reference it would come from postal code 46805. Let me know if you want me to remove the light bulbs.

USPS says (USD)
Priority Mail® International Medium Flat Rate Box ($27.95 6-10 days)
Priority Mail® International ($23.10 6-10 days)
First-Class Mail® International Package ($7.62 varies)

UPS Standard - $18.99 3-4 bus days.

FedEx International Ground® $19.31 2 business days.

Wasn't expecting it to cost so much, sheesh, let me know either way.

The price isn't too bad...when you consider I'd spend that much in gas driving around to the various junkyards trying to find one...

That is the one..Pics are better with a few CTRL + 's...they show up small but enlargement made the ID easier...

not sure if I need anything before the main clip though...and I'm not crazy about cutting my harness to transplant one so maybe just from the clip forward would be enough...the light bulbs aren't needed, but if you want to send them they won't add that much weight to the package.

Do they do COD or how would that work? I think you have to pay for the shipping at your end for anything the USPS does...not sure about the other carriers. Let me know...I can do e-transfers in Canada but not sure if they work international...

I will look into COD, not sure what all is involved with that. Were you thinking the first class route for $7? If so, just PM me your address and have a Merry Christmas.

Cool...and if you are going to cut the wires before the clip so I can just patch them before the clip so that the whole connector is there that would be fantastic...it will save me a lot of farting around...just add about 3" in front of the clip in case there is a few attempts required...lol

First class mail would be fine...the $7 one...if they want you to pay up front I can send you a money order...let me know...I will PM you with the new address...

Only problem with COD is I have to wait for them...but there is someone home all the time so I will ask her to watch for the package and give her enough cash to cover it...

Thanks again!
