my neighbor has a big ol box van from his old construction business. hes scrapping the frame and cab and he says if i help i can have the engine and tranny and anything else i want.

so heres what i know:

its a 6th gen body style (80-86)
it has the 351 as far as i can tell
it ran when he parked it about 6 years ago

so heres my questions:

what 351 came in these vans?
what tranny? ( i hope its a C-6 so i dont have to get mine rebuilt)

and what should i do with the motor? i really have no use for it:dunno:

It's a 351 W, depending on if it had overdrive (AOD) or not (C4 or C6), if the bellhousing and trans is one piece its a C6, if the bell is removable, its a C4...

cool, thanks for the info. i was hoping it was a windsor :headbang:

i already knew how to identify the tranny but i wont be able to see it until we get the van moved back. its sunk way down and theres only like 10 inches between the ground and box.

any idea on what i could get for the 351 if i sell it? and more importantly, does anybody on here want a windsor for there ranger/bII?:D

well i know some of hte f series trucks until 82 still had the 400/351m,, not sure if the van would be the same

If its EFI, try and grab the harness and ECU with it...As far as IDing the trans, pull the doghouse if you don't see an OD in the shift selector...As far as what its worth, I'd start around $250 and go from there, but thats just a guess...

its got a carb, and a big funky A/C unit. it kinda looks like one of the ones people use to make on board air with. not sure though cause this is the first one i ever seen.

Most likely a York compressor if its a standup or "L" style unit, which is a valuable unit, it has a self contained oiling system that are perfect for OBA's...

ill post some pics when i get back over there. if its what you say it might be, it looks like the ranger might have OBA at some point. :yahoo:

Good thing with those York compressors is they are very versatile to mounting...Each of three sides has a square 4 hole mounting bosses in them...Here is a pic of them...

Anything free is good, Bro...as long as it does not cost you anything to get rid of it!!!! lol I had a buddy get a free 351W once...it ran great when he got it and then he had to pay someone to take it away one day...nobody wanted it!! He traded it and had to spend money to get the 351 off his back. This was back in '76. Back then, everybody wanted the 390 Hipo or a 429 or if you were lucky...the 427 side oiler...which I still have one brand new in a crate. It is not for sale. One day I will put it in the '67 Mustang Fastback I still have not put back together. Yea..one day!!!
