Traded the old 2.3 turbo for this low milage (43,500 miles) '77 cougar motor.
Few quick questions, what oil pan should I use and will this gasket kit fit:

Had it down to the block an hour after i came in the garage, just gonna do a nice clean up and have the heads ported and polished. Also gonna add a 4bbl.

That gasket set will work, likely comes with multiple rear main seals.

You ideally want the "dual sump" pan and oil pump pickup, found in most Ford cars from '79 onward. Think Mustang.

Don't waste your time on those 77 heads. At the very least, buy a set of E7TE's and port them. Or go a step further and buy a set of GT40's. The 77 heads suck. Great boat anchors or door stops. Huge 70 cc combustion chambers. The E7's run about 64 cc. GT40's are 60 (if I recall correctly) That'll give the compression ratio a boost.(buy a half to a full point)

They'll due for now, the motors not gonna be built to any extreme. I wanna build a real nice 351w for it over the next year or so and dump that in it. Which puts you towards my other thread.. 302 vs 351.

If you want a self propelled mock up motor just check everything out, throw a gasket set and a set of seals in it and run with it.

Like mentioned before, don't put a dime into those heads. E7's are cheap, I got a set for $80 I think. That is well worth the money versus modifying the '77 heads.

If you ever get down to AZ I have a few sets of E7 heads and I will give you a set for free. I dont have any use for them and most of the time I scrap them. There is way to many sets of GT40 & P heads out there for me to ever reuse a E7 head again.

Well I think ill change my mind and take you guys advice. I read up on diffrent years for the 302 and 77 was deffently a bad year.... I might be able to get my hands on some gt40 heads from a guy down the road so we'll see how that goes.
