Ok, so heres the latest dilemma...

Trying to figure out what trans to use and a driveshaft to match for the V8. In the engine's final build... hoping to pull around 400hp and probably around 380ft/lbs at the crank (Probably wont get that high, but its a goal :icon_twisted:). Is there a stock tranny I can pull from a junkyard vehicle that will hold up to that? Or am I stuck buying an aftermarket build? Auto preferrably, going to install a manual valvebody on it.

Which brings me to problem 2...I want to eliminate the two piece shaft and go with a single piece. Any suggestions on where I could obtain one thats the right length? Its an extended cab 2wd truck.

Any help here is appreciated, I cant seem to find any good info on this anywhere :dunno:

I remember reading a lot of good stuff bout both your questions---try the search function for both questions & TRS Technical Library:headbang:

i would use a c6 trans and have a custom driveshaft made. if not, get a regul;ar cab shaft, and have the mods done to it. my 84 shaft is a one piece so there some out there. hope to be of some help

Saw some stuff in the tech library about transmission lengths, but nothing stating the required driveshaft length for different trans/cab/bed combinations. Though I s'pose transmission length is a good place to start. Search function didnt come up with squat in the way of relevant information.

Aluminum driveshafts from the 98+ Rangers.... can those be shortened?

Only problem I ran into in swapping to a one piece shaft in my ext cab 89 was it bumps the floor when two people ride or I'm towing a trailer. Definately don't want an aluminum shaft in that case. Mine's from a 93 E150 van, shortened about 2".

Wont be hauling people, or towing anything, once the swap is complete. Its going to be my weekend cruiser and 1/4 mile machine. So hopefully that wont be a problem.

98+ Rangers and E150 vans... time to hit the junkyards :icon_thumby:

I am shooting for 400-500hp and I am putting in a built aod that a local guy built, stall converter, red eagle clutchs.
