Thinking of buying this.

Now the bad news

My favorite year and configuration. What to do? :icon_confused::icon_confused:

Ah, just a flesh wound...

I wouldn't buy it myself...regular cabs are just not my style...but if you get it cheap...go for it...!

looks like a door, a fender, and a lower valence plus whatever is missing as far as the hub and wheel goes. I wouldn't pay more than $750 for it in that condition.

Guess I'm going to find out. Insurance salvage tender sale. Estimate sheet shows almost $10K!

Yikes!! Sounds like frame damage.

Nothing on the sheet for frame damage. Pretty much what you see in the second photo and everything is quoted full new list with insane Canadian $ values. I already can source all the used parts I need for a few hundred bucks and I've fixed worse. What throws me is that they want to replace the L rocker and cab corner. Can't see any damage that could not be fixed?

Placed my bid, will know next week.

Sharp looking little truck!

That should buff right out LOL. I'd only give them scrap price for it nothing more. In reality its already been totaled so the most you probably could get is a reconstructed title and that will hurt you a lot if you ever decided to sell it, not to mention the huge headaches to go through to have every little repair blessed off to get it back on the road. A totaled vehicle just isn't worth the headaches because even after all the cosmetic repairs what else is going to be wrong after that, then after that...it will be nothing but a major battle in never ending repairs.

It varies from state to state (in the US anyway) how difficult it will be to title a salvage vehicle. Some states will allow you to get a clean title whereas another state may force you to get a salvage title for the same damaged vehicle. I think the states have closed some of those loopholes over the years though. I remember back in the 90s people were bringing vehicles up to North Dakota from South Dakota that should have had salvage titles but were clean. I think SD was one of those states that was real lenient on getting titles for wrecked vehicles. I remember we used to joke about seeing SD plates on cars at a dealer's lot that the vehicle should have been in the scrap yard!

If it dont have four wheel that roll see if they will pay you to haul it off. Just my opinion

I agree there, if you spend any money on it to purchase it, you are already upside down on the vehicle. Check out what its worth in horrible condition, then subtract all the parts you have to buy to fix it correctly, then all of the inspection costs, title reconstruction etc. Just not worth paying for it IMO. Not to mention what sort of drive train damage is hiding in all of that.

Rebuilding a wreck is certainly not for everyone. Yes, it will have a salvage title, (branded as rebuilt in this jurisdiction). Book value on this vehicle is $3500 to $4500. Pretty easy to see why it's written off when you have an estimate sheet nearing $10K in repairs. Now, the question is why would you tackle this? First off, I've a pretty good idea of what I'm doing and if I were to repair this vehicle for resale, I would be sure I could get it back on the road for less than book value. In this case, with used parts and a little luck, I likely could purchase and repair this truck for under $2K plus my labour. I am more than a little smitten with the model and I would like to use it as my own vehicle. From that perspective, I will have considerably less than book value invested in it. Resale value due to title status also becomes a non issue. I also would plan to modify the vehicle, (V8 conversion, suspension modification). Much of this would offset what needs to be done to return to the road anyways. As a basis for a project vehicle, insurance salvage becomes ideal. Value as salvage will likely bring a positive return should you part out a vehicle, so you will expect some initial cost to aquire insurance writeoffs. It all becomes a decision you need to make on a case by case basis. In this case, I've placed my bid.

Wish me luck! Thanks for everyone's input.
