I tried searching but I never seem to have any luck. has anyone got a good lead for a key on 12v source in the engine bay? I'm trying to add an anti-critter module that uses a 12v source to shut off when the truck is turned on so that it isn't running 100% of the time. it's not needed to operate but it gives the device a good break and prolongs the life of the electronics.

Output side of starter relay.

Ignore this.

I just realized that was a long run in sentence. I'll give it ago.

Sentence length and punctuation are fine. Just remember to capitalize the first word of a new sentence, and you'll be fine.

You would only see 12 volts during crank there... right?

You have an under hood fuse block/relay center. Get in there with a test light...

Believe you need a 5pinRelay, with Coil powered by KeyOn12v, then 12v thru NormallyClosed contact to power AntiCritterModule.
Use VoltMeter to find an appropriate KeyOn12v Fuse in UnderHoodFuseBox, then an AddACircuit FuseTap.
Interesting: what's the Make+Model of your AntiCritterModule?

I got it off of the German Amazon. Its called the Marder Frei .10W. I picked a pretty cheap generic one. There must be a thousand different ones.

Do update this thread with how well it works.

Pretty much any solenoid in the engine bay will have 12v with key on

Easiest one to find is the IAC Valve, at the top of engine, red 12v key on wire

But there is EGR solenoid as well

If it's just a trigger, or a relay then no issues drawing power from these wires

I assume the rodent repeller has its own battery

It has 12v supply from the truck battery and then the trigger to shut it off. It uses the trigger to keep it from running while the truck is running.

What is its rated amp draw?

Car/truck batteries are not great with steady draws
Ranger's Key off draw should be 0.03 to 0.07 amps, or 30 to 70milliamps

I'm not sure what it is. its on the box somewhere. Its very very very low. most people who live out where I live have them and I've never heard of it causing any issues. I'd rather have a low battery than have an animal eat my wire harness and make its home in my engine bay. 🤷‍♂️
