My check engine light started coming on last week in my 3.0l longbed...

566 (O) transmission 3/4 shift solenoid/circuit - Transmissions
629 (O,M) Torque Converter Clutch circuit fault - Transmissions

I've had the 5-speed in this truck for 11 months and 14k miles. EEC-IV is a little on the slow side I would say.
 
There is a reason why EEC-IV is a dinosaur.
 
Well, you better go find where you put the auto and fix it, it's obviously broken... :)

i like eec-iv. its easy to navigate. newer vehicles running OBDII have so many options its sometimes hard to decide where to start looking first.
 
Yeah, I've had an automatic computer in my B2 since about a year after I swapped in the 4.0. My original computer died of a bad ground I think. So I've been living with the code. It doesn't light the Check Engine light though. My vapor solenoid does though--but it goes on and off depending on whether you are at an engine condition that the computer would like to suck some tank vapors into the the intake manifold.

Maybe if you are using a generic style scanner like Snap-On or OTC but if you use the manufacture specific scanner such as IDS/WDS for Ford, it's much easier to navigate your way around. The thing with OBDII is that the problems are usually more complex.

Did you actually CONNECT the check engine light?

On my '87 ranger there was a position in the instrument cluster flex circuitry
and a "Check engine" lamp position in the idiot lights, but being an '87 there was NO wire in the connector to the inst. Cluster and the hole for the lamp socket wasn't even punched out in the flex circuit.

So when doing my 4.0 swap I had to run a wire from the PCM to the
cluster connector AND I had to carefully cut the plastic out to install
the bulb socket in the cluster...

I think in '88 CEL's were required.
