Good idea?

First off I know people always say CAI's aren't worth the money cause the stock system is already a CAI but I dont care, I want to do this for looks and the cool sound. I want to do a custom CAI in my 3.0 V6 ranger and came up with an idea, thought Id run it by you guys, see what you think...

Somehow route the intake tube to on the top, above, the engine with sometype of plate in between the two. And put MAF sensor adapter in to sometype of cone filter, then make or buy a hood scoop to go over it, to get cool air from outside the truck to the filter, and so when you look into the hoodscoop you see the filter.

If I make the hood scoop, it would look like an old subaru one, kind of boxy and be made out of the stuff the tailgate cover things are made out of, whatever it is, and riveted on... would that look hokey?


good idea? yes, no?
other suggestions, besides just putting in a drop in HiPo filter...

Buy a ram air hood from cervinis if they have one for the ranger. I know they have a couple true ram air kits. Howver you do should come out allright.

jUST AS LONG AS YOU REALIZE ITS WORTHLESS FOR RAM AIR.Unless you have a 300 mph dragster.



Otherwise sounds like an awesome Idea.

yeah a little bit too expensive and, I wana have the satisfaction of making it myself, but i dont know about the hoodscoop though yet, I still might buy that.

I just built a hood scoop for my Spirit and I would recommend that you weld it on because that will add strength and you don't have to worry about the rivets coming out later. If you buy a fiberglass scoop, there is some type of adhesive that can be used with that but am not sure what that is.

the white hoodscoop will be sheet metal, or someting like the tailgate covers of gen 1 and 2 rangers and the dots are the rivets

If I remember correctly "ram air" intakes take 172 mph to create 1 p.s.i. of boost. Though they do like nice if done right.

Could call it cold air or ram air, they both pan out the same where you are going.
