so i dont know if all are like it, but on my b2, the power steering pump on the motor has a rubber hose which clamps over the steel hose which comes from the pump on the chassis. and where they join its leaking, even when the truck is shut off and cold. at first there was neither hose clamp on there so i put on 2 and tightened the hell out of them and its still leaking. so i take it off and put on a new hose, this one was a bit longer, and again i used 2 clamps and its still leaking. so is there any other kind of hose i should be using? ill take a look at the 88 ranger and see what she has on there

You can get OEM type replacements at any parts store, got mine at NAPA for the 81.
I think it was around $30.

If it is the side with the hose clamps, it is the return hose. You just need to buy some hose specifically rated for power steering and/or automatic transmissions. They sell it by the foot at Autozone. Be sure the metal lines are nice and clean when you put the hose and clamps on it.

The high pressure side would need to be purchased as a unit. The hose clamp would not be sufficient for the high pressure side.

theres only 1 line going from the motor pump to chassis pump

What is a chassis pump? The P/S pump will have a high pressure line and a return line. It has to have a way out, and a way back in.

ok i just realized wtf im saying, sorry, but i mean the line that runs from the power steering pump to the steering box on the chassis

Ok.

You have a high pressure hose and a low pressure hose. You can see in this picture, there is one with a hose clamp, and one with a metal 90 degree end on it that screws into the pump.

Which one are we talking about?

i wasnt really paying attention to the rest but i only realized one hose, i probably saw the other one and jsut never thought nothing about it and forgot it. but it is right on the back so if i were to guess from that pic you posted it would be the one on the back with the hose clamp, only this hose just has the clamp that you nip with the pliers to release it. but high pressure or not it shouldnt matter, as it still leaks even when shes not running remember, thats a key thing. it just runs down through the pump and leaks around the hose where it connects to the steel line that runs to the steering box. ill draw a diagram up now

ok try to make some sense out of this. i also circled where the leak is and put an arrow there as you can see

You need to know what you're buying before you go in there though, so that part matters. They are going to ask you the same questions. The return line is sold by the foot, and this sounds like what you need. The high pressure hose is a complete unit.

One thing to be aware of is, when you take the return hose off, you're going to lose all of the fluid. It's best to get something like a turkey baster and suck as much out as you can. I would suggest you replace the fluid while you're at it, even if you just replace the stuff in the reservoir.

So it attaches to the back of the reservoir, to the plastic nipple, right?

ok well its the return hose were talking about then , because i do loose the little bit of fluid that is left in the pump on the motor.

i dont need to buy any more hose, i have about 20 feet of it in my garage, the same stuff that came off it. the 2 hose clamps slow down the leak for sure, but the bitch still leaks! i had her completely full and went out the driveway and by the time i came back she was dead empty, no longer than 2 minutes for sure
