So I have a 92 ranger with a 2.3, and I'm planning on building the engine (Basically I just want something that's quick, fun, and will absolutely destroy all of the civics around town! haha)
Currently it has an M5OD tranny, which I understand can handle up to around 350hp. Now I don't really plan on going quite that high but once I get started who knows what I'll end up doing (Volvo head swap possibly?), and I know the t5 will bolt up if I get the tranny, or at least the bell housing, and hydraulic clutch parts from an 87-88 Turbocoupe.
But I was just reading that the ZF 5 speed, or some of them(?) need to do a little more research, is a hydraulic clutch and fits to a 302/351W. so I'm wondering if it might work with the 2.3? I do know that it will take some extensive trans tunnel modifying, but I kinda grew up being taught that the ZF is one of the best trannies ever.
So, does anyone have suggestions or any info that would help me in making my decision?
Thanks!
