Going to the Dark Side

The chevy 350 a bad ass engine, I got a buddy with a 1989 Chevy blazer 4x4. His vacuum four wheel drive and independent suspension sucks...but he got the 4.3 v6, I understand this it basically a 350 V8 with two of the cylinder chopped off? Idk if it true or not but i will admit, it a beast, it got some nice pick up and it can take a heck of a beating. And if hard for me to say this because I'm a big ford guy but I got some respect for the 4.3 and 350.

Depends on which 350 you mean. The base L48 350 in a '75 'vette was rated at 165hp, which wasn't the weakest 350 engine ever made--that was the 145hp L65. The last 350 'vette was the LT1 300hp.

That TH700R4 is my favorite auto. I had one behind a Banks-turbocharged 6.2 in my last tow vehicle. I towed everywhere with it and though everyone promised me it would blow up, it didn't. I loved the low, low first gear and the high, high overdrive. The low gear really helped get a load moving and a turbocharged diesel doesn't need to downshift so the 4-3 gap makes no difference. Cruisng at 70 and well under 2,000rpm was perfect. Knowing how the TV cable works is important, however. I think any bad rep they have is from people mistaking that for a kick-down, which it isn't. Lovely transmission, that.

Wow...you could throw on a blue rear door and have a rainbow truck...:)

I like the looks in the engine bay...carbed 350 was the way I was going to go about 6 years ago...but I backed off when the gas prices started to go up...

Looks like a quick paint job would give you a nice truck...or just leave it multi-coloured and get more stares...:icon_thumby:

LOL.....haaa haaaa!!. How about hiring a crane to pick it up and then dunk it in that camouflage dip? lol

Pretty sure it is the 231...I believe that's the only t-case they put in the XJs.

Lots of them came with the 242 selec-trac. It had the option of full time 4WD. Not as stout of a unit however.

That's funny, because I am selling my cherokee to buy my ranger.....LOL. BTW, mine has the 8.25 in the rear. If you need a parts jeep............

My zj had a worn out 249 in it, fulltime tcase, when it got hot it liked to act like a normal tcase, which had i left it, would have caused it to have a quite gruesome death, i ended up swapping in a nice rebuilt 231.

Why do people keep insisting that the ford community are the "good guys". WE ARE THE DARKSIDE. we are the evil ones. and unlike the emporer and darth vader we plan correctly and will win

Pics you say? Immediate plans are for getting a working speedometer and fuel gauge, followed by a new windshield, paint for the mismatched panels, front/rear bumpers, winch, tires, and finally upgrading the stock D-35 rear. I think I did pretty good for $3000. Interior is very good, body pretty straight.
