this is my history with these two major companies....and why i am the way i am...lol:thefinger:

1st vehicle: 1992 GMC Jimmy w/ 4.3L......good truck, has almost 225k on it, without a single problem. and ive put this thing through hell...Ive jumped it with around 3 and 1/2 to 4 feet of air, with 6 people in it, at 75 mph...no problem. taking it to local mx track, and hit every ramp, still ran fine, ate some dirt, but not too bad. had it up to 104mph a few times. used to absolutely destroy things. still runs fine, no problems just normal oil changes.

2nd vehicle: 1997 GMC Yukon w/ 5.8L? its the 350 think its a 5.8...good truck too, only 123k miles on it, not as much use as the jimmy but a good truck.

3rd vehicle: 1985 Ford F-350 with, i cant remember the engine. well, to say blown head gasket on 150k miles. It was a friends truck, but still rode in it alot....

4th and current truck: 1994 Ford Ranger Splash w/ 3.0L..yeah, no power i know...with 164k miles. well, i know that taking the transmission out of this isnt very fun...expecially 3 times. Burnt clutches, then a seal popped out, then to finally completely replace it with another sadly A4LD. so far its an ok truck, but im not very fond of it...just really needed a decent truck with milage for 2hour round trip 5 days a week, and to haul around the Quads.

My dad's truck is a 2004 Silverado 2500HD Duramax Diesel....ive put about 2k miles on it myself, of the 84k it has. amazing truck, no problems.

just putting my $0.02 out there.

And there's people who've had Jimmy's and Yukons that fall apart and Rangers that last forever with little maintenance. What does that prove? Little, if anything. I think it's funny when someone has one copy of one model out of millions produced and think it's reliability or lack thereof represents the entire brand. Vehicles get reputations, whether good or bad, but to own one car and think it indicative of their entire lineup is pretty prejudiced.

+1

My friends Jimmy ~'95 was a POS. constant electrical problems, tranny problems and so on. The engine finally blew at around 120,000. He now has a Frontier, we'll see how it does.

My Plymouth Voyager '94 had the tranny rebuilt 3 times in under 100,000 huge POS.

My 1989 F-250 189,000 trouble free miles, the radiator just cracked, so gettin a new one, aside from that it's solid. It's gas 5.8L I believe.

My 2004 ranger 95,000 miles has a leaky slave cylinder, I have been beatin the sh** out of it since 70,000.

My new '81 E-100 econoline 300ci, 120,000 we'll see all it needs I just got it and havent had time for it yet.

So to each his own, we will have different experiences with differnt vehicles. I try to look pass the manufacture and instead at each individual model.
