GM 6.2 Diesel???

Actually, to the 6.2's credit, they are better then a 302.

I am not a fan of the 302, they are sooo easy to replacewith a 351.

3000 mile round trips?

No offense but i wouldnt trust anything "home built" to make that kind of a trip.

Hi, Im just wondered what anybody might think about a GM detroit diesel swap in a second gen ranger (89-92). Here Is what I plan on doing, IF I do the swap. Fully boxed frame, ford 9 inch or a dana 60 rear, dana 44 or dana 60 front axle, maybe a TH400 auto but would like a manual, and custom crossmembers. I think the 6.2 would be a good swap because it, uses fairly common trannys, seems to be reliable, and it seems to a bit lighter than other diesels.

Just wondered if any body thought it might be a good swap.

P.S. I know the 6.2 is a gm engine, I do like ford, just thought it might be a decent swap

those are acceptable reasons for a v8 guy with a big sas 4x4.

just do it. get it done:icon_thumby:

and get a turbo.:thefinger:

You only get 15 from a 2.9? Somethin is wrong.

Hell i get 16 from my 5.4L Expedition with 3.73 gears.

7400 is all a Dually diesel long bed weighs?

My buddies 2000 F150 4x4 ext cab with a 5.4L weighs like 5500.

ya and that was figured while driving like a grandpa takin it slow. barely touchin the gas. plus just a few days ago my clutch fan siezed and is hindering. cause its full on all the time

I believe the sensor in the top passenger side of the transmission is contributing a big part to my poor milage. im not to impressed with my 2.9 right now either

All this talk about swapping a GM 6.2 lit a fire under my butt about my own diesel swap... I plan on using the VM Motori 2.8L CRD (from the 2005-07 Jeep Liberty), if you are looking to do this and are willing to spend some extra cash to save a little weight (I won't be SAS, or over 5000lbs) this motor is the ticket I think... 160hp/295lb-ft... I used car-part.com and found 3 within 100 miles for ~$3k... If what I think is true, you'll be able to bolt this up to a NSG370 6-speed manual+NP231 and have a really solid powertrain that should easily net 25mpg (or more)... I still have more research about transmission and t-case options (I"m not 100% sure about the 2.8L+NSG370 compatibility)....

+1
at least if you do it you KNOW its done right(or wrong in some cases) whereas you trust vehicles built by people you've never met? id rather build it than buy it

You're still on crack. No full size truck maintains 22mpg while towing a 5th wheel trailer. You're math is MASSIVELY flawed. These trucks barely make 20mpg on the highway with no load (some of them don't).

Ok...I can maybe see it not getting that good with a 5th wheel...but towing a medium sized U-haul fully loaded across Nebraska and the plains in my 97 Cummins 4x4 with an NV4500 and a slid fuel plate, hx40 turbo...I got 25. Granted that was at 60 to 65 miles an hour the whole way. (made for a long trip from Utah to Pennsylvania!):thefinger:

Most people don't believe it's possible...but I'll tell you if you drive them right you'll get really good mileage. If you had a Gear Vendor on top of that I believe you probably could pull 30mpg.:icon_cheers:
