ok, i finally need to get into my glove box. it is really stuck closed. does the knob turn left or right, or does it just pull straight down? don't want to do the wrong thing and break it. 1983 ranger, std. cab. thanks in advance.

almost everyone turns em to the right, try it that way, no pulling, its a twist type one

thanks. i've tried just using my hands and the knob doesn't want to move a millimeter in either direction. not sure what is going on with it, but i know if i break it, finding a replacement is not going to be easy!

is it locked? if its got a slot in the middle, it can be locked with the door key. other than that, try pushing the door closed while you are turning the knob. something may be jammed?

have you been into it before or did you just buy the truck?

try lubbing it with some wd-40, spray it to the pin that goes to the door. my uncle used to open it with a vice grip attached to that pin

WD-40 is junk (just kidding honduras LOL), but I'd use PB blaster........

My glovebox on my 88 was a major pain, it got a screwgy on more than one occasion.
but for 33k miles, I'd start looking at dropping the entire assembly to not damage it.

You might have better luck if you pull the dash panel off. That way, you can get to the inside of the glovebox, and see what the trouble is, and unbolt the latch if you have to.

I am having this problem myself. The lock is broken inside I think. I was able to get the door off without damage but how does the lock come out? I assume the knob has to come off but aside from destroying it I don't know how.
Ideas?
