Well I tried to be fair but people offering me a couple hundred $$$ to purchase my 93 2WD XLT and thinking a better value for me would be to send to scrap yard and get better dollar?

Anybody have an idea what a 93 2WD supercab would fetch at the scrap yard?

Scrap yards around here usually offer from $50 to $300. And it is very hard to get $300.

depends on what is wrong with the vehicle. what the year is, ect. basically it's worth whatever you can sell it for. first off does it run and what condition is the body and running gear. the wrecking yard will go as low as they can, especially if it's not running because either way they can part it out or make it run and realize anywhere frrom a 300% up to 1000% profit depending on what they do with it. case in point, they buy fullsize 4X4[ not running] for $300 and turn around and sell the front and rear end for $600 bucks, they've doubled their money and can crush the rest, right? WRONG, they can sell the doors, matching set for $250, the box, if it's decent for $500, complete cab, minus the doors, for $750. i could keep going, but bottom line they spent $300 and sold $2100 worth of parts.

I'd recommend checking the prices at various junkyards (that buy vehicles to be dismantled for their parts) and Scrapyards (that buy vehicles to be dismantled for
their metals content.) and there is wide variance.

In my area (eastern Pennsylvania) they are currently paying
$12.50/100lb or $250/US-Ton for cars.

a 2wd Ranger Supercab should run between 3400# and 3600#
so somewhere between $425-$450USD.

That's for SCRAP METAL sold to someone who has ZERO intention to dismantle the vehicle, they will drain the fluids and CRUSH it

While the local dismantlers are hurting for vehicles because they are only willing to pay $300 for 2wd trucks and $400 for 4x4's.

shit, the Dodge Caravan that I towed to the scrapyard a few weeks ago
for a 25% Commission brought $402 for WEIGHT and that was while the price
was only $11.00/100#
And that vehicle was worth only $350 at the dismantler across the street.

Basically how litle you let it go for depends on how much you DON'T want to see the vehicle torn up for it's materials and re-useable parts.

I'd LOVE to get a Gen3 supercab, but there is a major obstacle to my taking
the truck off your hands... I'm in another country from you and I simply don't
want to get involved in importing a truck from canada.

BTW, there is one local scrap yard that is part of a U-pull-it
And a "They-pull-it" Junkyard operation that tends to pay the highest prices for junk vehicles of anywhere in the area.

It used to be their policy to pay going scrap rate for junkers, but if the vehicle made it onto the scale under it's own power they paid a $100 premium (over the scrap value) for it.

I don't know if they still do that, it's been several years since
I've had a running junker to take down there and the last one was a 1982 F-250 4x4 (400M/C6 and severe rot in BOTH the body and frame), that was... jeez... July of 2001?
One of the employees there opened the hood and immediatly went into feeding frenzy mode over the Mallory dual-point dist that was on the engine:)

I'd be tempted to sell it for $500 OBO...if it's not running that is...if it's running and in reasonable shape you should be able to get at least $1000 for that year...don't let the cheap a$$ crooks try to talk you down...

had a couple ask me what I'd take for my Suzuki...told them $1800 and the guy kept saying "come on, what is your BEST price"...so I said I'd consider $1400 cash...then his GF says "We just looked at a 98 for $1200"...I said go for it and told them the guy I bought the front end off just sold the same year (95) for $1500 and it sold in two days...

Scrap in Ontario is pretty cheap right now and you might not get more than $100 for it minus the tow...but let me know if you find out otherwise...

I've heard of Brooklin but can't remember where that is...

I just got ~300 for 2800lbs today.

two new "salvage yards" have sprung up where I live.

Good times in the scrap industry!:headbang:

Just sold some scrap at the local yard, $12.50 per 100. I sold a Merkur to a parts yard and got $350 for it. Southwest Texas. Scrap prices are high right not. Many thieves around here are stealing cat converters and copper. They have killed phone service several times in the area. :) shady

I heard that scrap will be going down because China won't be buy it anymore until after the Olympic's, anyone else hear that?

I would think a 4cyl Ranger should be seeing a jump in resale value due to gas prices... and I am too tight with my junk to scrap it.

That'd be real interesting considering that China isn't the big buyer of steel at the moment.

India and Egypt are buying.

China has a bottomless appetite for stainloess steel.

I'm not sure who's buying all the aluminum, but it's usually recycled
domestically or shipped to Japan.

You can bring a whole car, truck, bike across like nothing, but it has to be for parts, and therefor the VIN will be no good in your country. 3 months ago my dad brought up a 2007 Custom built motor cycle for someone whole but for parts, just had to pay duty on face value, turns out it was cheaper to buy the bike then the parts to make it, the guy just needed a new frame and VIN.

I would rather sell a parts Ranger for $200 to someone that could use the parts than sell it for $400 to the crusher.
It won't be long and there will be NO used parts at all.
Of course, those values may be why I'm poor. I'm not poor in used Ranger parts though. If I could just bring myself to get rid of a lot of the things I've collected I would actually be able to pull INTO my garage.

My closest U-Pull-It yard gives a flat fee of $500 for any junk truck, don't matter if it's 2wd. Actually a month ago I took my good 'ol 2wd 85 Dodge D150 up there, I figured that since I only paid 100 for it three years ago that I might as well cut my losses and take in a $400 profit at the junkyard.
