im about to buy a 2002 2.3L manual ranger
what are some common things that go wrong with it? or what should i watch out for

I had an 02 4cyl 5spd. At about 90K I had to replace the rear brakes. At about 100K I had to replace the front brake lines (rubber). Other than that just normal maint. I traded it in on a 08 4cyl 5spd at around 125K.

Slave cylinder / throw out bearing, shifter bushings, pitman arm seal on the gear box, timing belts and timing belt tensioner, idler pulley bearings. Valve cover gasket soaking plug wires causing miss fires, rear breaks. ( drums stick from time to time and eat them up faster. )

That's about all I know of for common problems. All relatively simple fixes given you have the tools and aptitude.
