I put a Gibson cat-back on my Ranger two years ago, and have had a couple issues with it. First, the rearmost hanger rubs against the passenger side leaf springs, and squeaks like hell. it also needs retightening of all bolts. the last section comes loose all the time and droops while driving. Have considered using Loctite or some similar product to keep it all tight, but that squeaking is going to drive me insane.

Lotsa aftermarkets - will put 'em all in when not so drunk.

Rubbing like you describe can typically be fixed with a little prying and a bfh.

Anytime you install a clamp-style exhaust you should heat the engine and exhaust up really well and re-tighten everything. Doing it with it hot allows you to get the stretch on the bolts required to keep it from working loose.

If your hanger rubs against the spring, you did not get the adjustment of the intallation right. This requires twisting the pipes around a little before tightening the clamps. It sounds like you also may not be tightening the clamps enough if they keep coming loose. When I tighten the clamps, I do it until I see the pipe material yielding a little.

My Gibson Single Side Swept has been on for 7 years without any problems. I use a 31" spare tire and had to move the exhaust even farther over. I was able to do this by bending the hanger mount a little and twisting the pipe connections untill I got the clearance I wanted. I check the clamps occasionally but have never had to retighten them.

Here's a tip....

I used to have exhaust system clamps loosening up
all the time, and finally found a simple solution:

Double nut the clamp bolts. That means running an extra
nut on top of the original, and tightening it down against
the existing nut. Works like a charm......
