New to this forum but not a dummy when it comes to repairing things. Never had a lick of trouble with my 1999 ranger with 2.5 w/ 5 speed manual transmission. Bought it new in 1999 and only has 62,000 miles. My little SCOOTER POOTER. Love the truck and haven't had any trouble until now. Not getting fuel. changed fuel filter, made sure bump switch was not triggered turned on ignition could not hear fuel pump from gas fill. I have the owners manual and haynes manual for it but no where does it show where the fuse and realy for the fuel system is located. I would like too verify that the fuel pump is probably bad before I drop the fuel tank. I am a very knowledgeable tech just not on vehicles the past 20 years. I work on emergency gensets for a living now. Any assistence would be most appreciated

There should be a fuel pump relay in the fuse box under the hood

Thanks for the info I kinda figured that was where it is but I have no info as to which relay is what and what fuse is what and where under the hood. You would think the owners manual that came with the truck would list this info.

on my 94 when you open the underhood box there is a diagram on the underside of the cover. also, i've dropped the tank in mine to change the pump, but from whateveryone else says, pulling the bed is a much easier job.

Welcome to The Ranger Station, Douglas.

If you send me a Private Message and include your e-mail address, I will send you a large file of schematics for the 2000 model year. It should be the same as your 99.

It'll give you all the locations your owner's manual lacks, plus a ton of other stuff.

Thanks for the info, A very kind person has located the road map to my ranger. once I locate the fuse, relay, and associated wiring with out having to probe and prod on an untouched truck that has had no major problems since new I will exact repairs on my ranger. I would definitely like to know the fuel pump in the tank is probably not working due to age and Cr*p-E fuel. Anyone have a good source for a fuel pressure gauge I can connect to the schraeder valve on the fuel rail? Have plenty of tools for working on generators and such and now having to buy more to get back into the vehicle repair game. Just added a new tool to remove the chasis fuel filter, might as well add a few more to the collection. Looks like this forum is going to be as interesting if not more than my generator forums.

Thank You earl. I wear out harbor freight on deals and coupons to boot. I will check stock and hope the puppy is still on sale.

sounds like you have zero pressure.........I would make sure you have power to the pump.......as stated could be fuse, relay etc.........the fuse diagram absolutely should be in the owners manual.........it is in the roadside emergency......you can swap it with the fan blower relay to test it.........if your pump is bad pulling the bed is the best way to replace.......I have a writeup if you need it

Anyone got a 97 prior schematic folder? Ive been looking for one on some forums, but only some atv forums have service libraries, that stuff would be GREATLY appreciated. and yea I'd say pop the bed bolts out and just jack it up so u can get in there and swap the pump, i dont think anything else would be in the way other than the bed. Plus you can throw some paint down there if theres any corrosion.

Thanks for the info guys. Finally getting a chance to get back to my depressed ranger. Probably going to drop the tank but I would like to check one thing first. Can you safely hotwire the fuelpump circuit prior to dropping the fuel tank. I was thinking B+ to pinkwith black stripe wire and ground to chasis. to verify pump has a slim chance of still working. I found fuse # 9 under hood and relay #5 under hood. Swapped relays #4 and #5 . Not showing a good 12vdc on green/yellow wire at inertia switch. Turning ignition switch on reading 11+ vdc then 6+vdc when switch is left in on . Any thoughts on the subject.

Finished troubleshooting the voltage. Found a bad connection now have a good B+ to the tank. Pump still does not work pulling the tank after I get the fuel out of it. Ouch on the cost of new fuel pump assembly. Does anyone have a preference of OEM versus NAPA aftermarket?

As I mentioned already unless you have a LIFT pulling the bed is the tried and true method

I think because of the prohibitive cost of the Motorcraft most are using after market pumps. Maybe you could just replace the Pump and use the old assembly if Cash is tight
