Hey guys. I have a 1990 2.9L with a manual tranny....What are some simple ways to get some more power to this engine?

Power is really kind of perception, you could re-gear and it would seem like it has more power. Or remove a bunch of weight even - But there are ways to get more out of these engines, but it is neither cheap nor simple. 2.9L is not a lot of displacement, but with a manual trans it should be pretty decent for what it is.

Ok...so it's not like a diesel in the fact of getting a tuner, changing exhaust, and air intake to get more hp and torque?

you will get a few more ponies out of that stuff but not like youd get on a big 6 cylinder or V8...

no, not at all. for the size of the engine, ford's done a pretty good job of squeezing the power out of it.

I had a friend that had a 2.9 in his 89' and the thing that made the biggest difference in driveability was the MSD ignition box he threw on it. Seemed to gain significant throttle response and really smoothed it out. He had done plugs and wires a month before, and it still made a noticable difference. He also had a cold air style intake and 2.5" exhaust from the Y-pipe back.

Nice...Thanks man....I will get goin on that

i spent A LOT of money on my 2.9.. thinking i was gonna get something. sure it helped a little.. but bang for your buck?

4.0 swap it.. yeah that's right. do what i did. i'm MUCH happier w/ my stock 4.0 swap than my "supped" up 2.9.

i did msd igntion, mild cam, exhaust, throttle body, injectors, air intake, and probably more.. the exhaust and msd made the greatest difference. but it was all a waste of money
