Ive recently found out that i still have a felony on my record. its a juvenile case that was supposed to have been sealed at 18. Ive been told it was going to be sealed but the fines were never paid. i was told by my mom she had payed them. my lawyer wants a $1000 retainer.. i can afford to pay iether the retainer or the lawyer but not both.

any one ever do this before? do i have to have a lawyer or can i request a court date on the matter?

Go down to the court house with the receipts. Go to the clerk of courts and ask for a transcript of your record. Then if possible go see the judge that issued the sentence and ask him for his help. If he isn't there anymore ask a current judge for their help. Most times if you have kept your nose clean and the judge knows you aren't a rich person they will help you out by sealing your record. All it takes is a piece of paper from him to do the trick. Surely if you have lived where you are for a long time someone in your family knows the judge anyhow.

you don't need a lawyer cause i am going thru this right now for 2 felonies and 6 misdaminors, what you do is request a court date and go in and say you want it sealed which if you haven't had anything happen in the last 3-4 years they usually will, but it also depends on the felony and how you got it, oh and it is never sealed once you turn 18 unless you go to court and pay, i thought it got sealed when i turned 18 but my soc officer said you have to go to court.

Idaho is pretty weird sometimes on the way things on your record are. I would personally go down and find out what all is on your record, or since you live in Idaho you can goto the Idaho Repository page and see your record without going anywhere and its free. Goto: http://www.idcourts.us. Then click on name search put in your name, and information and it will bring up all of your record. Once you do that goto the courthouse and get a court date unless you know the judge and can personally get his/her help in the matter. If your fines have in fact been paid, you need to find the receipts for those fines and show them to the clerk's office to get that taken care of, until those fines are either paid or proven to have been paid your record cannot be sealed. Get it done ASAP bud, cuz if you don't its going to be extremely hard to find a job depending on the types of felonies that are showing.

Build time machine
go back and tell yourself not to commit a felony crime
problem solved

lol

but srsly

The fines havent been paid. my mom is a weasly little liar. i have a grand to pay the 550$ fine. and whatever else. just cant pay a lawyer and the fine. good to know i can requesy a meeting with the judge cuz hes still a judge in town and i have kept my nose clean for the past 6 yers.

And trust me. if i had a time machine id go back complete high school and stay out of trouble. paying for it now haha. thanks guys!!!

Been pretty tough finding a job with a felony. hopefully i can get rid of it

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic but I see him learning from his mistakes and trying to be a better person and trying to help someone else along that same path.
THAT is cool.

Do the meeting with the judge and be very very polite. It might be higher for the fine now due to the lack of payment. But if you're honest with the judge? He might cut you a break, seal the records when you provide a receipt for the fine.

Good Luck with it. Most companies do have policies in place for past felony convictions. They can be hard to overcome, but not impossible if the person applying for the job is upfront and professional.

Got the fine paid ;-) only 80 bucks more than usual. my lawyer talked to i guess the judges clerk and was told he generally seals alot worse records than mine without any complications. :-D
