Well the time has come to ditch the stock exhaust. Ive been looking around at the dynomax kits and found the 97 and older to come with 2 1/4" tailpipe while the 98 and up come with a 2 1/2" pipe with a polished tip. I can order just the tailpipe from napa from a 98 and up for $102 and make it work on my 96. And Im thinking about a Thrush welded muffler. Im just looking for input on what you guys think about doing this and if there was anything else i should consider before I do it?

I have 2.5" from the cat back with a Flowmaster Delta 40 on mine. It seemed odd to me that it'd be 2.5" goin into and between the cats, but 2" from there back. I just went to my local exhaust shop and $220 later, it was installed. It sounds a lot like my co-worker's straight piped 4.3 blazer, and at leats one old foagy with a ranger thought i had a v8 somehow. I just looked on youtube and quite a few people had the flowmasters which i think gives a more mellow burble at idle and when cruising arounf 1500rpm around town.

+1 on the 2.5" pipe from the cat back. I moved to that a few years back, with the Thrush muffler and I like the sound and my butt-dyno thought it was a little more responsive. Of course, that might be all in my head since I did not scientific measurements.

On top of that, it doesn't drone at highway speeds, and sounds nice, deep and mellow at idle.

Ok thanks guys. Ill watch some more videos and make my decision from there. I know I dont want a glasspack. I want the deeper tone for sure. It will be either a flowmaster 40 or a thrush welded Im thinkin. And Im traveling alot right now for school so I dont want anything super loud for cruisin back and forth
