I recently bought a 01 ext, cab with a 3.0 auto, 115,000 mi. is there any common issues with this yr? so far the door ajar alarm comes on randomly. I have read that the 5spd auto is a problem on some. mine whines a bit at idle. is this a problem? I had a 97 2.3 stick, this one is much nicer, has way more power, thanks for any help.

I was having the same issue with the door alarm with mine after I first bought it. In my case I wasn't closing the extended cab door completely.

My 2000, 3.0 took a Cam Position Sensor at about 80,000 miles. First noticed as a high pitched squeal from the rear of the engine. Double platinum autolite spark plugs seam to last only about 20,000 miles.

re

will a cam postion senser make a whining noise? mine does only at idle

Mine sounded just like the squeal of a bad idler pully, except from the rear of the engine. Worse during cold weather.

Yes it does. You can narrow it down be removing the belt and running the engine for a minute. If it squeals replace it. Be aware that when these fail and they do, there is a better than average chance you will loose an engine. The shaft is what squeals, and it still turns the oil pump like a distrubutor did. It is safe insurance............:icon_thumby:

Second, idiosyncracy - 2 door ext cabs: Tend to have issue with air bags, this is due to the movement of the passengers seat and wiggleing the sensor connector. The connectors get a small amount of corrosion and become very sensative, particularly to high humidity. If Air bag light is on move passenger seat forward as if to enter rear reach under and queeze connector together and restart. Longer solution (about 12 to 18 months and repeat) is pack with dielectric grease. I am looking at tieing the cable to the seat to see if that works. Just have not had time...........:icon_bounceblue:
