i bought a rear already built with 488 gears
and i was going to stuff the front the same
i have a buddy thats a mech and he was saying that he put the excact
same size gears front and rear and a truck what size gears dont know
but anyways he said the truck would not move at all when put in 4 wd
and the reason was that the front and rear has to be one tooth off
like 410 411 i never have heard of this granit i am new to the seen
but just does not sound right can any body elaberate on this issue for me

thanks

holy **** your typing is annoying

but you can run 4.10s and 4.11s there close enough to not hurt anything but you couldnt run like 4.10s and 3.73s. he much of picked up the wrong gears for the front he probably needed reverse cut gears and got normal.

He is absolutely incorrect about needing to intentionally mismatch gears. 4.10 is perfectly fine with 4.10, 4.09, or 4.11. As long as front and rear are within 1% or so of each other, it's not an issue for normal part time 4wd use.

Find some 4.88's for your front end, and call it good.

If your front tires and rear tires are the same size, yes, you want the same gearing in your axles.

If you have different gearing, your front tires will be spinning at a different speed than your rear tires...doesn't that sound problematic to you?

yes thats why i was asking
but when the owener of a very well know mech. outfit said that
it made me think what the hell but thanks for all the advise

Sounds like he's decent with a wrench but terrible with logic.

This is the only response taht attempted to explain the problem with the mechanics gears. And quite a sound suggestion too. Given that this could be his problem then what he told you is moot. Make sure you have the proper gears for your front end and you dont have to worry about being 1% off, because you can get your 4.88's and they will work fine.
