does anyone know what gear ratio was in the 1998 rangers with the 4.0 ohv 4x4? im thinkin there 3.55 but i aint a genious so yea anyone got one out there that knows fill me in please

get your door sticker axle code.. look in tech library.
or look on your rear axle at the diff tag..

Crawl under it and see if there is a tag on it. If there is let us know what the bottom line says. If you think it is a 355 then it say have something limk 3 55 or 3L55

Yep!

And if the door sticker and the rear tag are gone.. Then it is easy to turn one wheel and count the turns of the driveshaft.. One turn of the tire will result in the driveshaft turning the exact gear ratio. 4:11 and 3;73 would be the most lilkely.
