well i just bought a 87 ranger with 2.3 engine stick shift, and i would like to change the gears to maybe some 3.73's, i'm in budget build, what other fords have the 7.5 rear end with 3.73 that i could pick up at a local yunk yard.

first step is to find what you have, you could have 3.08, 3.45, 3.73 or 4.10 gears as that is all that was offered then, if it's a 4x4 you probably have 4.10 gears, 4x2 probably 3.08 or 3.45 depending on stock tire size (you can look on your drivers door sticker to find out what it has, post the axle code and we'll help you figure it out). What tire size do you have or do you plan to run?

Rangers are the only thing that's going to have an axle that will bolt up to yours, and like I said, there are a few different ratios available.

If you don't have 4.10's, get them. A 2.3 loves them.

I agree to getting the 4.10 I went to the 3.73 and wish I had went to the 4.10.

my axle code is 84 and my truck is a 2wd

so 4.10 huh i had 4.10's on both of my stangs and there were great but i dont know about my ranger lol the gears it has now seems ok but i just hate that i shift at 3200 in every gear and then it lags a bit.

changing gears won't change how it acts after you shift, it just changes the speed at which you shift or cruise in what gear...

you have 3.45's, 3.73 probably wouldn't hurt
