i'm wondering how can i tell what kind of gears are in my ranger? i hear that changing the gears to something lower in a ranger equipped with a 2.9 can help it in the power department. i drive my ranger everywhere and its my daily driver but i find it lacks power. plus i wouldnt mind putting on a bigger set of tires i currently have 235s on now.

read the axle code off of the sticker on your drivers door jam then compair it to the table in the tech library.

alternatly, you can read the little metal tag hanging off the differential cover (if its still there). it'll be stamped with something like "3 73" or "3 27". the 3 will likely be covered by a bolt head.

if you go bigger tires, you'll need to go even taller with the gears.
