ok well i want to put some oil in my manual transmission and what weight oil should i use i was told like 75w90 would be good? cuz i cant find any manual transmission fluid and they told me regualy light duty gear oil will work so i just came on here to double check if this helps my truck is a 94 b3000 5 speed manual and should i buy some lucas transmission stop slip stuff helps restore seals, stops hard shifting, and stops any leaks, would that be a good investment to put in just for insurance to help

um, gear oil should NOT be used in your transmission. Your year you should be running Mercon ATF fluid.

ok soo just mercon ATF what?? is that the exact name of the oil or is it like mercon ATF manual transmission fluid?

look in your owners manual, it will tell you in there what exactly to use.

ok thanks just my tranny leaked over the winter cuz my truck was driven alot before i bough it so i jsut want to top the fluid it and the leak stoped i used lucas stop leak and it worked

Hmm, I wonder how many oil passages it plugged up along the way. Many of these are smaller than a pencil lead.

what do u mean? is that lucas stuff shit or ?? i was told by my mechanic that it works good to stop little leaks?

The way to stop leaks is to replace the leaking seals (commonly the 3 shift rail plugs at the top rear of the trans).

ok thanks ya i just wanted to stop the leak for the winter until i could save money to buy parts and then in the summer i can work on it without getting cold, but ya i plan on changin all the shift rail plugs and all the old seals

I think some of the guys that posted thought you had an automatic transmission. Unless you've got some new fancy manual we've always just used 80 weight gear oil, same thing thats in the rear end. If your not sure though most ford dealers will look up that kind of info for you.

Hopefully that helps you some

No! The M5OD uses ATF, not gear oil :bye:

I'm kinda interested in why, was it used to cool it somehow, all the manuals i've ever worked on were just gears and synchronizers, guess some of the newer ones were made a little different.

most of the manual transmission in ranger, explorer's and B2's use ATF over gear oil.

I wouldn't say most. Only the M5OD uses ATF, the FM145-146 and TKs use gear oil.

Me too my 07 manual says to use atf in it but I've always found in older mtx cars that thicker gear oil is whats used to reduce shock and provide smooth shifting.
