So, if anyone recalls, I installed an 8.8 axle into my Ranger that I had installed 4.10 gears into. I did this in June 2006. There has not been any noise or problems with the install. Today, I removed the cover to check on things and replace the gear oil. Below are the pics and I was pleased to find nothing appeared to be wearing abnormally.

did you do the change yourself? are you a professional mechanic?

Yes, I did do it myself. I was advised by two different "professionals," but the work was done by myself. So, having a quiet dependable gear change accomplished the first time at it made me a little excited. :icon_welder:

can we get better pics of ring-gear? looks like a little too much backlash, contact on the ring gear, what I can see on the drive side, it seems like it's too close to heel... about 1/8" from making contact.

Here's a large close up. Unfortunately, the focus was a little more on the center gears than the ring.

Looks one on the acceptable side to me, second one down on left

What does "looks one" mean? I think you're saying it looks like one of the acceptable patterns on the chart, but can't tell for sure. Thanks.

It works 3 years later so it's acceptable.

I've never seen anywhere else where it shows the contact pattern going off the contact surface itself acceptable, like shown in the pics.

Either way, the setup looks good, especially if its lasted 3 years with no signs of weird wear... didn't mean to nit-pick, just wanted to see how close to heel it really was.
