I want to change the gears in my ranger to get some more low end torque. I will be using stock tires and Im thinking about getting a superchips flashpaq. how do i find the right ratio. do I just find the tire diameter and the current gear ratio and then look at the gear ratio chart on this site? also will the flashpaq need to have a different tune for the new gears? thanks

Do you know what gearing you have now? Whats your tire size? If its like mine with 3.73's but I have 31's... its does ok. But 4.10's would do better for me and probably you if you have 235's or 225's.

Do you have a 2wd or 4x4?

An SCT Tuner would probably leave you better off. I don't hear the best from superchips. Plus the SCT tuners you can have the guy preset special tunes just for your truck.

my tires are 235s which I believe is a 29 inch tire, not sure though. the current gears are 4.10 so I was thinking either a 4.30 or 4.56. I have 2wd and its a 3.0L. also which sct tuner is the best one?

Well if you already have 4.10's thats about the best your gonna get as i think the next size up is 4.56's and most people use those for 33's.

A 3.0L is not a very fast motor all its torque is up top and the only way to bring it down is engine mods such as a tuner. Instead of speanding money on gears I would get a Tuner, Underdrive pulleys, larger throttle body and an exhaust. I think the tuner is called the XC2 or the XC3... But here is an awesome site you might wanna check out.

You're already pretty close to ideal for that engine as far as gearing goes. However with it being 2WD (and if you have the 8.8" rear) a move up to 4.30:1 shouldn't be too detrimental to your MPG.
