finished my install of an 84 carbureted engine into my 90 that had a 2.3, I've been able to get everything working except for the oil pressure and coolant temp. anyone have any ideas on this one

if you just talking about the regular water temp and coolant temp in a 2.3 ranger it really just wnna see ground. that meaning if you was to ground it to the frame it should move inside your vehicle. now if the wire you put to ground doesnt move either you have a broken wire or the wire you chose doesnt go to water temp or coolant.just make sure you have the correct wire by turning the switch to acc and if you have any left over wires ground them and watch them gauges from the inside.all your gauge wire i think will be in the same location:icon_thumby:

wiring

isnt the coolant temp switch just a thermal switch that closes at a certain temp
if so then wouldnt that just make the gauge go to full hot.

so all i would have to do is find which wire in the chassis harness is the lead going to those particular sensors and extend the lead to the sensor?

you are right but what you are doing is just trying to find out if you have the correct wire on those sensors...this is why i said ground the existing wires until you find the 2 wires that move them 2 gauges from the inside. then just connect them to the correct sensor.
