I have a 1994 ranger 4.0 V6. I recently installed a new radio, and since then the gauge cluster illuminator wont work. It blows the fuse every time I try to use it. I know I left some wires that didn't get used when I wired the radio, but has anybody had this problem? Or even know what the problem is and know how to fix it?

There's a very high likelihood that you hooked up the dimmer wire wrong to the radio. Either it's hooked to a wrong wire, or it's loose behind the radio and grounding out. Any unused wires need to be insulated at the ends somehow, a little bit of electrical tape will do it. Double-check all your wire connections, and find the wire for the instrument dimmer and find out where it's going.

Ok. Ya I looked up the wiring diagram, and remembered the black and green dimmer that I didnt hook up. So it's probably grounding out. I would love to get into it and figure it out, but my truck is on jackstands right now and don't want to be fumbling around in the cab. Thanks for the help. I will wire up what I find and what I do as soon as I get it figured out
