My credo
Work Smarter not Harder
So my '99 XLT does not have a tachometer/RPM gauge, can I get a gauge cluster with it, from another ranger that actually has it, and just rig up a way to get it to work? Or will this just screw things up?

Any 1998-2003 cluster will fit fine without issue. How to wire in the tach I have no idea. It's probably already wired for it though and would just be a plug and play situation (I know you need to set it for 4 or 6 cylinder with a grounding plug on the back) but someone else would need to verify that.

You cannot use anything from an 2004+ truck, they look similar but are computer controlled.

Yes, your 1999 will have the tach wire in the cluster wiring so you just need a cluster that has a tachometer

It can be from a 4cyl or V6 Ranger, if its from a V6 Ranger(3.0l or 4.0l) you don't need to do anything it will just work
If its from a 4cyl then you will need to change a ground wire on the cluster

Get the cluster first then if needed you can find out which ground wire to change

Having Ron verify your questionable answers always gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. :icon_rofl:
