My credo
I need more sleep.
Wow I am still alive and actually my ranger is so old that things are just kinda breaking now. (nothing mechanical just basic things).

I have to replace my window motor since it has died (and fix the punched in lock hole) and I also apparently need to replace the bulbs in my gauge cluster. Half of the RPM is just dark now.

So the question is how easy is it to replace the bulbs? Are they user servicable? And if so what bulbs are they? I keep finding conflicting information on them. I just want whatever is essentially OEM to go in. ( i plan to replace them all so I have no idea how many there are)

This is on my 07 Sport.

194 bulb

My wiring diagram says there are 6

I've replaced the bulbs on my '96. I would think the '07 would be similar. Check out:

Its kindof a pain to replace the cluster illumination bulbs only because you have to pull the cluster out to do it, and you have to take a lot of the dash apart to pull out the cluster.

I replaced all my cluster bulbs in the 01 with green LED bulbs. If you do this, you need bulbs that shine in all directions, not just up, and you need ones that are dimmable and also not too bright. The LED bulbs should never burn out in my lifetime, and that makes it a one-time job.

It’s a little bit of a pain to get the cluster out but not really hard. I want to say the illumination bulbs are all 194 and some of the like warning lights are some other bulb.

Personally, I don’t like going through the trouble to get in there so I typically replace all of the 194 bulbs and put any that aren’t burned out in my bulb stockpile to use up on more accessible locations. I usually go to the parts store and ask for the bulk commercial pack of bulbs. Some stores may hassle you about that, some don’t. I have a commercial account now so I don’t have to argue. A 10 pack is usually about what you would pay for two bulbs off the shelf.

I recently did this. I installed a gauge cluster with a tach from an explorer. One of the bulbs was out on the explorer cluster so i replaced them all with LEDs. Took less than an hour to remove old cluster replace the bulbs and install the explorer cluster. Very simple job.
