Hey folks, I’ve got a 92 ranger XLT 4.0 6 cylinder, and there a leak in the gas tank, the previous owner had put a screw in it and sealed it but it’s sweating pretty bad so I’m looking for a new gas tank to put on it, but I was wondering if in the meantime I could use Jb weld to seal it off? I’m thinking maybe putting it over the screw that’s already in It to seal it but idk if that would work so I wanted to get some thoughts

All these fuel tank repair putty/JB/and whatever other ones you can think of never really repair... band aid at best. But you really don't have anything to lose if it's already broken. I can't remember the brand of the last one I used but I want to say it was made by permatex. It worked for a bit but I replaced the tank when I got a new one.

There are still some salvage yards that have used tanks if you do an internet search its probably a 17 or 19 gallon tank. LMC has new straps if they are needed I think someone mentioned finding a company that sells new as well. The engine size won't matter but I would put in a new pump and sending unit

People use to braze gas tanks, but, considering how someone at Newell Recycling in GA managed to blow himself up and burn down part of the yard removing an empty gas tank about two years ago, I would stick with rivets.

They are called marine rivets, amoung other names, and I think West Marine still sells them. Anyway I did a quick google and this should explain enough:
