does anybody else have or has had this problem and know the fix cause with my tonneau cover and bed liner it is a bi*** to take the bed off... when i fill up my gas tank i notice gas dripping under the truck from the skid pan...

it seems to be coming from the top of the tank then spilling down the sides... BTW no codes set 1996 OBD2 4.0Lohv 20G tank

I would suspect a cracked filler neck hose (seems to be fairly common on these trucks... Both mine have had it).

i had a problem that sounded exactly like that. If i would fill up past a half tank i could see the gas drip down the side of the tank. i replaced the filler neck to no avail and found a crack in the middle of the tank.

can u change the filler neck with out lowering the tank?

Yup, take the bed off. I just took mine off to replace the fuel pump. It's really the easiest solution. One wire plug for tail lights, three screws for the filler neck and six bed bolts. You can get the bed off in 15 minutes. Dropping the tank is a real PIA. You'll never get at the filler clamp on the tank unless you either drop the tank or take off the bed. The bed is a two man lift without the tail gate. Three of us removed the bed with a camper shell attached.

I changed a fuel pump in a snow storm in about 25 minutes by myself on the side of the road, I just moved the box back a foot, it dont need to come totally off, but I didnt have a cover on mine, a lot of covers have a quick release so that you can take the cover off and leave the rails on the truck

edit: i also didnt have a liner, your rails will probably have to come off to get the liner out

thats my prob FX2 prerunner i would have to take the cover off then the rails then the plastic then the bed then the connector... then finally i could change it... but then i would have to put it all back on.... it just sounds easier to lower the tank because i am a tech so i'll just use my bay when it slows down.. so i have a lift and everything....
