Gas tank in the cab, is it safe?

A lot of older trucks had the gas tank behind the seat. Think pre-1973 Fords. A case can be made that it's actually safer there in a collision but I still wouldn't be crazy about the idea.

I could make the case that AIDS is just a cold since they are both viruses.

Dude, that's not even related, nor does it make sense as a joke/comparison. That's apples to grapes.

Try this:

I could make a case that AIDS is better to have than a cold because you can cure aids.

*eh, it's not perfect but it's better.

The point is you can make the case for anything. Doesn't make it even a little bit true. I love when people don't get it. lol

Is it safe to put a stock gas tank (not a fuel cell) inside the cab? I do let people smoke in my truck, they will be sitting 2 feet in front of the tank.

This kind of sounds like something wile-e-coyote would do if he needed to drive along ways to catch the road runner. I would personally not put a gas tank into the cab regardless of how well it was sealed cause shit happens and especially with people smoking inside your truck.

You could also make the case that a rectangle is a square, since they are both parallelograms, but you'd be wrong, maybe a bit smoother way of getting your point across?

I appreciate all the comments so far. I know it's a crazy idea, otherwise I would have just done it without asking for any opinions. BUT, it's also a crazy idea to send men to outer space, and we've done that safely. I just don't want a replay of the Challenger in my truck. So, how can I make this safe? If I build a box around the tank and run a breather tube to the back of the truck, I don't see how that would be any different from having the tank under the vehicle. Either way there is only a thin piece of metal separating the tank from the passenger compartment (either the box that I build, or the floor in a stock set-up).

I could make the case that fat girls are skinny if your drunk enough.:shok:

Sounds like this is off highway only? Not racing with other vehicles at the same time?
I'd build the box. Isolated from the passenger compartment.
