gas mileage

If he increases the height of the tire by 10%, his effective final ratio will decrease by the same 10%.That makes a 3.45 into a 3.11. No too bad still, but if he goes another 10%, then it becomes 2.73 and that 4 banger won't push that well at all. I also have a 300-6 in a full size truck, ( a 428 as well in another ). My 300-6 has 2.73 rear and I put an overdrive in. So at about 70% OD, its final ratio is under 2.0 :) But that 300-6 has so much torque it pulls it just fine. I do well on the highway for a full size carbureted brick. I got 18 recently driving 65-70 mph. Not bad.

the old 2.3 i had did about 20-22 thats not that bad, my 4.0 gets 14.5-18 now that i put bigger tires on it

Ok replaced a vacum hose from valve cove to a pipe and gas mileage stays aroun 24 or 26.Also idles like new.Have ran about 7 tanks of regular gas and those are my results.Once tried mid grade wasnt any different.

Higher octane raises the fuel's resistance to burning. It doesn't have anything to do with fuel mileage in your vehicle. Seriously, might as well roll down the window and throw money out.

I am getting 26-27 mpg when not towing, and 19-21 mpg pulling a 800# trailer w/700# of lawn care equipment. I removed the intake baffle, put in a drop-in K&N filter, removed the heated air intake at the filter box (I am not recommending it, I am testing performance difference. It has passed the summer tests fine but I still need to test the winter performance.), put Slick 50 in the engine & tranny, Mobil 1 synthetic in the axle, and unhooked the EGR. I am running 215/75R14 with a 3.45 axle. If I go over about 63 the mileage starts dropping to 24mpg @ 70mph.

SRich, seems you are right on top of yours as well. I watch mileage closely, I can do the math in my head after a full up, so I do it each fillup. I travel out of state once a month with this truck, so I get good samples at highway speeds. I'm never below 63 :) I see a change in mileage over 70, but thats usually where I am, if not much higher :) Let me know what you find. Also, I dropped 10% with the crappy fuel we get now, how about you?

it all depends on how well you maintain your engine, keep your tire pressure and how clean your air intake is. i was getting 12 mpg in the winter here, and checked my tire pressure asap and it was 20 psi, i filled them and then got 14-15. After that i did a full tune up including plug wires air filter and now averaging 16 city and 18-19 highway. The biggest thing is i have oversized tires and a 4.0L V6 extended cab 4x4. Its all about maintenance with fuel mileage.

old thread nooob, plus your comment has no relevance to a thread about 4cyl gas mileage
