i have a 93 4.0 and i get about 18 city and 20 hwy was wondering what some of yall have done to improve gas milege?
kalwren what do you have on yours to get 23?
I don't have anything on my truck. It's all stock.
It's the way I drive and what I drive on. The majority of my driving is on the freeway. I run 70mph in 5th gear at 2000 rpm.
I use either Shell or Chevron fuel. I never run the non-name brand oddities. I always run 87 octane.
I have a 5 speed manual and I drive like Grandma. I drive the speed limit or 5 mph over. I've been driving for many years, so I've honed my driving habits to the point that I don't think about what I need to do (unless traffic gets really thick). I watch what other drivers are doing and I make sure that if I change speeds (faster or slower) I do so gradually. I anticipate what other drivers are going to do and modify my driving accordingly. The 'Two Second Rule' doesn't cut it. I leave 3-5 seconds between me and another vehicle. I protect my space cushion.
I anticipate stops. I roll up to the light without my foot on the gas pedal. I brake when I need to and I let off the gas as soon as I know I have enough momentum to get me where I want to be. I also practice Hypermiling. It works, especially well in a stick shift.
Taken from their website:
What is hypermiling? According to a a fantastic August 2006 story in the Washington Post, it is a method of increasing your car's gas mileage by making skillful changes in the way you drive, allowing you to save gas and thereby have an easier time withstanding the rising oil and gas prices.

Hope that helps.
