Gas gauge not working properly

IC removal difficult!
Yes

Hence my anger of another do-over on removal and thus a bypass. Big hands, big fingers that don’t bend well anymore, less patience than a methhead. I hate instrument clusters. At this age of vehicle, everything is brittle and ready to snap off. While in there replace the cluster back lamps. Might as well ‘cause do-overs suck.
I fiddled with my OE sender many many times with bed removals. Thought I had things cured. Then failure again, then all new pump hanger and when tested, still didn’t work. Went back to module and bypassed. Happily ever after I have lived. Wasted much time and money.

Thank you " Brain75".

the 87-89 mustang guys bemoan the slosh module too and indicate theirs is a different part number than 90+, so a direct answer... Ford was using anti-slosh modules by 88 for sure, and almost certainly the 88 Ranger does, have to pull the cluster out to see.
I know 86 didn't have the module. If they changed the gauges around in 1987 like they did in the big trucks, then that may have been when they added it. The old style gauges worked on heat. They were so slow using that method, they probably did not need any electronics. I am assuming the anti-slosh module is just a circuit to average the sending unit signal out.

1983 thru 1985 used the 2.8 with a carb, so the pump was on the engine, no pump in the tank. In 1986 they had the fuel injected 2.9, so it had the in tank pump. But I think some of the 4 cyl rangers may have still used a carb, so there may be a mix of different style tanks during a few years there.
