I have a 1988 ford ranger my gas gauage almost shows empty, untill I put in gas and the gauage starts to work, then the next day it's back on empty! Is it my sending unit or do I have a short somewhere?
Brass Float in your gas tank is most likely the culprit. You can get the floats from a ford dealer with 3 in a pack (you only need one). Then just undo the tank straps, remove the sending unit and then remove the old float. If its got a hole in it, its your culprit, or just drop it in water and see if it floats. Just simply slide in the new one and put every thing back together. Took me less than an hour to do on my 94.
ya my truck does kinda the same thing.. i can fill up the tank and the needle goes way up above full,, then after just a little bit of driving it will drop down to empty, and ive tested it, once it first touches the red empty dash i can drive 100 miles without getting gas.. lol, found that one out the hard way
