I have an 86 xlt with gage issues. Wow I guess this is a first. Temp gage doesnt work except at hot . Fuel gage is way beyond full when filled up. I changed one wire sender unit and still reads hot. Fuel gage I havent messed with. Yet. Would it be easier to put aftermarket gage in and forget about it or install other sender unit and see what happens? Dont have voltmeter to measure volts . NOw all I am doing is elimination process. Does most everyone install new gages or ????
I want a Tach in the truck and was thinking or mounting it on the A-pillar and if I do that just install a temp gauge. Opinions please or solutions greatly encouraged. Many thanks

i think it would be easier and less frustrating just to add an aftermarket gauge. They are pretty simple and more accurate. You just go get them at an autozone including a tach and temp for around 50 bucks. good luck

gauge dilema

I have been told that my issue may be the instrument voltage regulator. Gas gauge reads high ,oil is high, temp is high. I have looked for new regulator but cant find one. anybody know the part number? or where to find one. Looked on ebay but no listing for 86. I need help . thanks

I'd say this is a good possibility. Your best bet would be LMC Truck for the instrument regulator.

bought one. be here Friday
