FX4 Level II

I recently aquired a chrome shifter from a FX4 Level II truck that did not hav ea knob or shifter boot. I am curious as to whether anyone know what size threads the stock shifter had as I would like to get a knob for it. Also does anyone know any of the part numbers for a boot off hand?

this is the shifter I am talking about it was a stock piece. I am unsure of how to measure what size threads they are.

FX4 LII knobs are screwed on as shown in the above picture. Unfortunately, I don't know what size or pitch it is. I suggest you grab the shifter, head down to a local auto parts store that has automotive fasteners and go to the nut section and try to thread different nuts on it until you find one that fits. You will probably need that nut anyway. The FX4 LII shifter knob uses a jam nut to lock it in place. If your new knob does not need to be oriented, you can probably get by without the jam nut.

Just for you information; if you bottom out a FX4 LII shifter knob and tighten it without a jam nut, you will crack the knob internally and get a vibration sound from it. How do I know? A Ford dealer that was not familiar with the FX4 did some work on mine and cracked the knob. They also installed a new one for me.

Hey, thanks for the help. I'll have to hit Home Depot and find a but. I have a cue ball threaded so I'll be using it. But was thinking of buying a hurst 5spd knob in the future. Thanks again
