FX4 Alcoas on first gen

Wondering how they look and fit on a first gen. Offset decent? I suppose the center hole is still too small for lockouts?

Thinking my current sawblades will be too wide with the D35 and just thinking about alternatives.

Wheels on a 1998+ 4x4 Ranger will not fit the front of a 1983-1997 4x4 Ranger. The center hole is too small for the locking hub to pass through. You would have to have the hub center cut out by a machine shop to fit over the hub. I mean if you want go for it

I know for a fact the Alcoa fit.

1) I have seen pics here of a 1st gen with them on.

2) The one day at work I went in early to change out my blown auto hubs for manual ones. My first job of the day just so happened to be a FX4 Ranger needing tires. Since I had all the parts there and would love a set of those wheels I tested hub fitment just for kicks, they fit. A little tight, not like my steelies where they just drop in, but they did fit.


FWIW the fit was similar to the Explorer tear-drops I have on my BII. It does work, but it goes down a little tight and you really have to watch that it is going on evenly when tightening the lugs

Pay any attention to how the offset looked?

My current wheels looked perfect with the stock axles, I think the rear looks a little wide now the Ex 8.8... and the front will soon be the same width with a D35. I need to pull one off sometime and check the backspace, I might be screwed anyway.

I didn't put them on my truck, just slapped one of the old hubs in the hole to see if it fit.

I don't think the backspace and offset changed much on Ranger rims over the years.

I have the D-35 and Ex 8.8 on my 87 with 31x1.50s and I don't really have any issues with the tires sticking out too far. They are pretty much even with my fenders, so it might fail the water test, but that's a stupid test that most vehicles don't pass stock.

Rims did get wider over time though. I think you are right with the 3.75" backspace being the RBV standard, but if they get wider they have to go outwards then.

All I have for stock wheels is the white 15x6 (I think) white sport wheels that came with the truck. No desire to go back to them.

More worried about the mud tires throwing rocks (I live on a gravel road) than anything.

The stock wheels I had on both of my rigs were 15x7" and I recall had 4.5" backspacing. So if you were to simply go from a 15x6 w/3.75" BS to a 15x7 w/4.5" BS, you'd actually lose a half inch in total track width.

A friend of mine had an fx4lvl 2 years ago. My manual hub fit in just fine. But we never put it on my truck

True D35 in the front (oem for '91), disc brake explorer 8.8, 4.10 gears, aussie locker
