One of my buddies is going to look at mint 1987 bronco in a few days, just wondering if there are any specific areas I should keep an eye out for problems. Its a 5.0, 4x4, auto, with 103,000 miles (or 130,000, i cant remember). He knows the people that have owned it for the last few years and knows they aren't the type to beat on their cars, so its more than likely in pristine condition, but i still want to know what to watch out for. :icon_twisted:

um, they are a good truck in my opinion, a week spot is the trany, what shape is the body in?

auto hubs if it has them, tranny depending on which one it has, floor right inside the door jamb tends to rot/rust out. cab corners just like rangers, rear window motor, removable tops tend to leak if not properly maintained or if they have never been off and you decide to take it off. over all they are tough, reliable vehicles that suck down gas.

ya, i forgot about the rear window motor, you can replace the seal for the removable top, its not that bad, and ya, they are tearable on gas

Same thing I heard.... epa rates them at 10 mpg (!!!!) which i told my friend, but he only drives about 300 miles every two weeks so he isn't too worried... his current car is SERIOUSLY in need of replacement, he cant even open the drivers side door anymore, the blinkers have to be "blinked" manually, the brights dont work, ac doesnt work, pretty much everything aside from the engine and transmission dont work. The body of the truck looks like its in excellent shape, but I havent seen it in person yet... I'll let yall know :)

So we just got back from looking at the bronco..... wow. this thing looks like it never left the car lot!!! its all original, no rust, EVERYTHING works, and its some special "texas edition" (Probably just has special emblems and thats all) but this thing is MINT. My buddy is getting it for sure now :) The hubs are the only part thats been changed out, instead of the auto hubs on it, its got a set of brand new manual hubs on there. Its also got push button 4x4... i could have sworn the full size broncos never got the electric transfer cases... anywho - I'll get some pics for yall later.

I had a '90 for a bit. It was a 5.8 with the E40D and a manual t-case. It had auto hubs and I put manual ones on it. It sucked gas bad. I only got 8 in town but I drove like I had Bin Laden's head between my foot and the accelerator. It made 14 on the highway with the cruise on at 65. I was driving my B2 all the time then so I enjoyed the extra room, but after the first fill-up I sold it. I could drive my B2 poorly and get 14 in town.

dont the fullsizes have two different auto transmissions for that year? the e40d and the aod?
