Full Width SAS on '90 Danger the 4th

Doooo iiiit. You have a doubler setup for an rbv still dont you?

I have a 1350 and 54E sitting around. But I sold the Duffy shaft I had.

I am leaving for work tomorrow for 2 weeks. If Its still there when I come back...

Yeah, I would do a flared bar. Like how the motocross ATV guys do it.

Yeah, still on the fence with the tons for that reason. Its like my Ranger days. built the D28, broke it. Got a D35, that wasn't any better. Then went to a SAS which was WAY BETTER but still broke it in stock form.
I think I could get away with 1/2 ton axles (with chromos) if I keep it light. I still need to compare costs.

Yes however the main thing to consider when you compare your 1/2 tons to plums or brays is they are still only running a v6. 1/2 tons with 37s may not hold up with a v8 especially if you like to drive rough. I'm not saying you have to use the one tons but I've heard so many times from people that are buying 1 tons is that they are tired of being broke or wish they had just did tons from the start and not wasted the time on smaller axles. I'm one of those people that ran 1/2 tons then went to 8 lug 44 which was no better. After I switched to tons I've been able to wheel a lot more and a lot rougher without having breakage issues.

I wouldn't really say mine has held up...lol We will see how it does with the chromos..that will determine what I do for my next set of axles. I will probably go HP 44 before I am smart enough to go tons:icon_twisted:

Well if you decide to go hp at least you really only need a housing and gear set.
I'm assuming you plan to narrow down to EB width?

Correct. Although the EB shafts are .5" shorter on the short side and I had to trim them back another .25" since the mini spool adds material between the cross pin and shaft. I think would still be safe to run them in a HP. I am unofficially on the hunt the for a housing already, when/if I regear I am not buying LP gears.

I'm sure you will be shocked but I have a couple bare housings here.

I have a 78-79 F250 housing and a 76-77 F150 housing.

Set it up for 1/2 tons but keep them for sale if they sell take that $ invest in gears for the tons weld the rear.

You can still run the tons on radius arms and everything you would use on the 1/2 tons.

The plan is to do a 3 or 4 link front. But if I did use my 44, I would probably do RAs again.

You are right. That V8 will probably kill those 1/2tons with my foot.
If work slows down today, I will make a spread sheet comparing costs lol.

We both know I will be on tons someday. Why not do it now like you say

Just put a 300K 2.9 in the Jeep....half tons should be more than enough.lol

You need to cracking on a wheeler. I think Kyle and I are planning a late April/ Early May run at SOR. I was planning this weekend, but I got stuck doing some side work.

Kyle is even doing his lower intake gaskets for the next ride....only because he has no choice..tried to start it last week and found out the back two cylinders were full of coolant....lol

Maybe I can get Lee to take his Rubicon. Or many I can get the wife to go out with her friends so I can take the JK...

^Yes or yes OR yes and yes.

Sent from my XT907 using CrapaTalk

Well, looked up some pricing. Building 1/2 tons to handle 37s and a V8 is a lot more than I thought it would be. I will probably end up parking out my 1/2 tons.

I currently have one of each axle listed. I just spent $500 on a Ford D60, but I can get that back by selling the Chevy 60 I have. Therefore, I did not work in 'initial axle cost' numbers.

Rough numbers I came up with:

I love when you make spreadsheets :icon_cheers:

That's really not too bad price wise.

:icon_thumby:
Not at all.

Side note, a friend sent me a text today. He can get his hands on a early 80s Lincoln with a EFI 302. I am going to call him later today for more details. It runs and drives. I will probably make sure this deal works out. No cash would be involved. Just some trading. :headbang:
